Rejected credit card application? Your credit history report can help

Every person in Australia that has been credit active within the last 7 years has a credit report. This credit report contains your full credit history that any credit provider will view when you apply for a new credit card or loan.  So if you have been rejected for a credit card then you may want to take a look at your credit history as it will show you why you were not approved.

Where can you get your credit history report? The company Veda Advantage holds a database of all Australian and New Zealand credit consumers. This is the company that banks, retailers and other credit providers check your history with. Veda Advantage does not approve or decline your credit application it merely provides the information to the credit provider. The report will cost you roughly $30 and it will look something like this example report from the Veda website:

Why would you want your report? A few reasons:

- if you cannot get credit or a loan you can find out why and try to fix this up.  See if you have any overdue accounts or if the information on the file is wrong and it needs to be updated.

- credit card fraud is a rampant issue and somebody could be using your identity to borrow money.

So if you really need access to credit or a loan then your credit report is a good place to start so you can fix up any pending issues you may have.
